Malada Grand.Luxury Villa Bespoke Joinery

Chiang Mai 2025

The Malada Grand (มัลดา แกรนด์) project is located in Chiang Mai (เชียงใหม่), the renowned tourist city in northern Thailand, built along the mountain slope as a high-end private villa integrating living, entertaining and leisure. The expansive site borrows views from both sides — layered mountain ranges on one side and a carefully landscaped tropical garden with an infinity pool on the other. Dinghao Wood Industry provided an integrated whole-house custom service covering design development, factory prefabrication and on-site installation, including ceiling woodwork, feature walls, storage systems, movable furniture and wood veneer cladding.
(1) Wood-slatted ceiling — the visual backbone of the entire home
The wood-slatted ceiling running throughout the residence is the project's most defining design language. Warm wood tones flow continuously across the open living room, dining area, corridors and double-height space, zoning areas while preserving spatial continuity. Recessed downlights are evenly distributed between the slats, delivering soft, layered ambient lighting throughout the day.
(2) Natural stone and tropical greenery — a material dialogue between inside and outside
The project extensively uses grey natural cultured stone for feature walls and garden retaining walls. The rough, earthy texture of the stone contrasts sharply with the smooth floor-to-ceiling glass and refined wood veneer. Lush tropical broad-leaf plants sit alongside the stone walls, and indoor and outdoor greenery echo each other through frameless glass, making the architecture feel as if it grows naturally from the landscape.
(3) Custom curved upholstered furniture — softening the structural edges
The living room features large, irregular curved fabric sofas with full, rounded lines that contrast against the hard stone and straight architectural geometry. Two brown egg-shaped lounge chairs complete the arrangement, creating a relaxed yet intimate conversation area. All sofa bases, coffee tables and benches are custom-made to on-site dimensions, ensuring a precise fit within the architectural space.
(4) Boundary-free indoor-outdoor living — sliding glass walls and double-height glazing
Fully operable floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors open the living room completely to the outdoor terrace, merging interior and exterior into one continuous space. The dining side features a double-height volume where an entire glass curtain wall frames the distant mountain skyline; at dusk, twilight floods the interior, forming the most evocative backdrop to the dining experience.
(5) Floating staircase and linear feature trough — bespoke craftsmanship in the details
A white-stone floating staircase with transparent glass railing appears to hover weightlessly within the space. A long linear feature trough embedded in the living room floor is filled with natural volcanic rock and gravel — both a visual focal point and a transitional element between indoor and outdoor landscapes. Every such detail was field-measured, factory-prefabricated and precision-installed by the Dinghao team.
